Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who's had great popularity with her stories she tells of her young heartbreak. Swift began to develop an interest in music as a child and quickly progressed from playing in kids' shows, to making her debut in front of an audience. Swift started writing songs at the age of 11. She performed The Star-Spangled Banner for a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game. She drew inspiration from the musicians from the country genre like Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks (now the Chicks) Swift crafted original songs that were a reflection of her own experiences of growing up in a world that was dominated by tweens. Swift's parents moved her to Tennessee at thirteen after they sold their Pennsylvania farm. This allowed Swift to devote more time looking for labels to promote traditional music from Nashville.
